DUBAI – Dubai Esports & Games Festival (DEF) returns this May, bringing gaming, esports and digital innovation to the heart of the city from 8 to 24 May 2026.

Now in its fifth edition, DEF promises its largest and most immersive programme yet, transforming Dubai into a global stage for gamers, creators, and industry professionals. With an expanded citywide schedule of events and activities, the festival underscores Dubai’s ambition to solidify its position in the international gaming ecosystem.

Organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), DEF has grown rapidly since its launch in 2022. In 2025, more than 45,000 fans, families and industry participants attended 12 major events across 17 days, highlighting Dubai’s increasing influence in global gaming and interactive entertainment.

DEF 2026

The 2026 edition follows pivotal initiatives by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Council, who established two specialised committees to advance the gaming and film sectors. These steps form part of Dubai’s long-term economic diversification plan.

Aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to position the city among the world’s top three global cities, DEF 2026 serves as a flagship platform for international engagement, local talent empowerment, and investment stimulation.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of DFRE, said: “Dubai Esports & Games Festival has evolved into a strategic platform reflecting Dubai’s global ambition in gaming, esports and digital innovation. By convening global industry leaders, developers, investors and fans in one citywide celebration, DEF continues to strengthen Dubai’s position as a major international hub for gaming and interactive entertainment.”

Festival expansion

Building on previous success, DEF 2026 introduces a citywide programme that extends beyond esports competitions. The festival places emphasis on youth engagement, family-friendly activities and educational initiatives, making the event inclusive and multi-generational.

Key highlights include the return of flagship events such as GameExpo, GameExpo Summit powered by PG Connects, Play Beyond, and the Dubai Cosplay Championship. Alongside these, new large-scale interactive experiences will cater to families, students, creators, and young professionals.

Running for over two weeks, the festival features hands-on gaming, live competitions, creative challenges, youth engagement, and future-focused discussions. The citywide design ensures that participants of all ages, whether casual gamers, competitive esports fans or students, can engage with the festival in multiple ways.

Registration is now open for fans, students, teachers, vendors, cosplayers and creative vendors. Cosplayers can register to compete in the Dubai Cosplay Championship, while creators can join The Narrows, DEF’s dedicated creative marketplace spotlighting local designers and pop-culture artists. Teachers can register schools for the DEF Educational Engagement Programme at def.gamecentric.io, and vendors can explore participation via official registration links.

GameExpo returns

The flagship GameExpo, taking place from 22 to 24 May at Dubai World Trade Centre, Zabeel Halls 2 & 3, is designed as the ultimate playground for gamers, cosplayers and families. The event features live esports competitions, interactive gaming zones, hands-on gameplay, and an extensive showcase of the latest releases and retro favourites.

Visitors can explore immersive zones such as the debut Neo Tokyo District, Battle Arena and Velocity Garage, alongside seven other themed areas. Across 10 zones, more than 100 gaming consoles, live tournament stages and interactive spaces allow attendees to watch, compete, and play in a dynamic environment.

The Narrows, supported by Dubai Culture, spotlights homegrown talent, from local artists to Emirati creators, reinforcing DEF’s commitment to fostering the creative economy. Families and children can enjoy family-focused zones, participate in gaming challenges, and witness live cosplay performances on the main stage during the Dubai Cosplay Championship.

Returning partners such as talabat, Nescafé and Dubai Culture will host on-ground activations and cultural showcases, contributing to the festival atmosphere. Food concepts, creative vendors, and entertainment add to the citywide experience. Early bird tickets are now available via Platinumlist at https://game-expo.platinumlist.net/.

Education focus

The DEF Educational Engagement Programme 2026 engages students, schools, and teachers in interactive learning through gaming, creativity and digital innovation. Workshops, challenges and competitions are designed to develop future-ready skills, foster problem-solving, and encourage innovative thinking.

Participation includes exclusive opportunities to access special experiences, compete for rewards and showcase ideas during DEF Education Day on 21 May at Dubai World Trade Centre. Schools are encouraged to register early to ensure student participation and track engagement through the festival period.

For the first time, DEF partners with LEGO®️ Certified Stores to deliver a dedicated LEGO experience. Families and children can explore interactive build zones and creative challenges promoting storytelling, imagination, and hands-on play. The LEGO collaboration complements DEF’s broader festival programme and expands appeal to multi-generational audiences.

GameExpo Summit

The GameExpo Summit, powered by PG Connects, will take place on 20 and 21 May, gathering regional and international leaders, developers, publishers, investors, and innovators. The summit provides a platform for industry professionals to discuss the future of gaming, esports, and interactive entertainment while fostering investment, collaboration, and sector growth.

DEF 2026 aligns closely with Dubai’s wider digital economy agenda, acting as a catalyst for long-term development in the gaming ecosystem. Tickets for industry professionals and summit participants are available via Platinumlist. Further programme details and announcements regarding games, schedules, and experiences will be revealed as the festival approaches.

Citywide engagement

Beyond GameExpo, DEF 2026 offers a range of interactive experiences across Dubai. Play Beyond will deliver youth-focused and educational activities, while citywide retail activations create opportunities for fans and creators to interact with brands and explore the latest in gaming culture.

With more than two weeks of programming, DEF 2026 is set to attract diverse audiences, from casual gamers and families to professional creators and investors. The festival reinforces Dubai’s position as a global destination for gaming and interactive entertainment, delivering inclusive and immersive experiences that celebrate creativity, play, and digital innovation.
